Introducing Northstar, our first desk lamp

Two years, forty prototypes and one obsession with even light. The story behind the lamp that started our product line.

Concentric rings radiating from a warm glowing centre

Northstar started as a side project. Our studio had beautiful desks and terrible lighting: harsh overhead panels in the morning, a gloomy cave by late afternoon. We tried every lamp on the market and kept finding the same problems — hot spots, glare on screens and colour temperatures that felt clinical.

Forty prototypes

The breakthrough came from the optic. Instead of a diffuser that wastes light, Northstar uses a precision-moulded lens that shapes the beam into an even rectangle the size of a desk. Getting it right took forty prototypes and a lot of 3D-printed lamp heads.

Light that follows the day

Northstar shifts its colour temperature through the day, from energising daylight in the morning to warm light in the evening. It is subtle enough that you won't notice the change, but you will notice that evenings feel calmer.

Northstar is available now in the products section.
